Don’t Carry Tomorrow Today
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” — Matthew 6:34 NKJV
Life can get heavy when everything seems to happen at once.
Lately, I’ve had a lot on my plate—moving houses, staying on top of work, helping my son and daughter-in-law move, taking some time away with my family, and handling all the unexpected things that keep popping up in between.
And through all of it, God has been teaching me something: I don’t have to carry tomorrow today.
There are things I can handle today, and those are the things I need to focus on. But there are also things I simply cannot address right now. Instead of allowing those things to consume my thoughts, I’m learning to stop and say:
“Lord, I can’t handle this right now. I don’t know how this is going to work out, but I trust Your guidance and Your provision. I’m giving this to You.”
There is incredible freedom in that.
As my faith in Christ has grown, I’ve learned that giving something to God doesn’t mean I’m ignoring my responsibilities. It means I’m recognizing where my responsibility ends and where my trust in Him begins.
Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow because today already has enough that requires our attention.
Think about what happens when we don’t follow that wisdom. We spend today worrying about tomorrow, and because our attention is somewhere else, we fail to deal with what God has placed in front of us today. Then today’s unfinished problems get carried into tomorrow, where tomorrow’s problems are already waiting.
Before long, we’re stacking problem upon problem, worry upon worry, and burden upon burden.
That’s not how God intended us to live.
So if your plate feels full today, ask yourself:
What can I actually do today?
Do that faithfully.
And what you cannot control, cannot fix, cannot accomplish, or simply cannot get to today—give it to God.
Tomorrow will come soon enough.
Don’t sacrifice the peace, purpose, and opportunities God has given you today because you’re worried about something that hasn’t even happened tomorrow.
Handle what you can. Give God what you can’t. Trust Him with what comes next.
Prayer
Father God, help me to remain present in the day You have given me. Give me wisdom to recognize what I need to handle and faith to surrender what I cannot. When my mind begins running ahead into tomorrow, remind me that You are already there. Help me trust Your guidance, Your timing, and Your provision. Let me faithfully take care of what You have placed before me today and leave tomorrow in Your hands.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
