Don’t forget your identity while walking through the valley
Scripture
Psalm 23:4 (CJB)
“Even if I pass through death-dark ravines, I will fear no disaster; for you are with me; your rod and staff reassure me.”
Reflection
Valleys have a way of clouding perspective. When you’re in the middle of hardship, pressure, or uncertainty, it’s easy to start identifying with what you’re going through instead of who you are.
But the valley doesn’t redefine you—God already did.
You are not your struggle.
You are not your past.
You are not the weight you’re carrying right now.
You are a child of God, chosen, called, and covered—even in the valley.
Notice David didn’t say “if” I walk through the valley… he said “even if I pass through.” That means the valley is not your destination—it’s a season. And while you’re walking through it, your identity doesn’t change just because your surroundings do.
The enemy wants you to forget who you are.
God wants you to remember whose you are.
Encouragement
If you’re in a valley today, stand firm in your identity. Speak truth over yourself. Walk with your head up—not because everything is easy, but because God is with you.
Don’t let the valley name you.
Don’t let the struggle define you.
You are still His. And He is still leading you through.
