Drunkenness

Scripture:

“Let us live properly, as people do in the daytime — not partying and getting drunk, not engaging in sexual immorality and other excesses, not quarreling and being jealous.”

— Romans 13:13 (CJB)

Reflection:

Paul reminds us that followers of Messiah are called to walk in the light, not in the shadows of behaviors that numb our spirits or cloud our judgment. Drunkenness isn’t just about alcohol — it symbolizes any escape we run to that pulls us away from clarity, purpose, and obedience. When we choose the things that dull our spirit, we silence the very voice meant to guide us.

We’re called to live “as people do in the daytime,” with nothing to hide, nothing to escape from, nothing blurring the vision God has given us. The enemy loves when we’re distracted or impaired. But Adonai calls us to be sober-minded, awake, and alert, ready for every good work He lays before us.

Encouragement:

Brother, stand firm in the light. If you’ve struggled, know this: God never shames—He restores. Choose clarity over escape, purpose over pleasure, light over darkness. Walk today with a clear mind and a steady heart, fully aware of the calling on your life. He is with you, strengthening you to walk upright, holy, and free.
