Examine the Pour Before Expecting the Fill
Scripture:
“Do nothing out of rivalry or vanity; but, in humility, regard each other as better than yourselves.”
— Philippians 2:3 (CJB)
Reflection:
You often get out of relationships what you put into them—not because love is transactional, but because investment matters. We don’t love or serve others for what we’ll get back; we love because we are called to love. And when that love isn’t immediately returned, we don’t grow discouraged, because faithful love is never wasted in God’s economy.
But if this is a close relationship and you find the same frustration repeating itself, it may be time for an honest pause. Sometimes, if people aren’t following, we need to look at how we’re leading. Are we modeling the grace we hope to receive? Are we loving the way Messiah loves? Or are we quietly expecting others to pour into us what we haven’t been willing to pour out?
Encouragement:
Love isn’t about taking—it’s about giving. When we lead with humility, consistency, and genuine care, God does the heart-work in others that we could never force. Stay faithful. Keep loving well. The Lord sees every seed you plant—even when the fill feels delayed.
