Fellowship in the Chores

July 5, 2025, 2:02 PM

Today, as I was preparing for my grandson’s first birthday, one of my brothers from our life group came over to help me knock out a few last-minute chores. At the end, I thanked him for coming, and he said, “I told you I’d come hang out with you anytime.”

I laughed and said, “Well, we weren’t just hanging out—we were doing chores!” But that’s when it hit me: fellowship doesn’t always look like sitting on a porch talking for hours. Sometimes it looks like picking up a broom, helping with a project, or running errands together.

When we serve alongside each other, we’re not just getting things done—we’re building something deeper. True brotherhood grows not only in the quiet conversations, but also in the shared tasks, the teamwork, and the selfless acts of showing up.

So when a brother asks for help, don’t see it as just another thing on the to-do list—see it as an opportunity to build relationship, strengthen fellowship, and reflect the heart of Christ.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.”

— Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (ESV)

Jesus modeled this with His disciples—not only in the temple, but on the road, at the table, and even while washing feet. Don’t miss the divine in the daily. Sometimes the holiest moments are hiding in the most ordinary tasks.
