I Thought
Scripture:
“We demolish arguments and every arrogance that raises itself up against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey the Messiah.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5 (CJB)
Reflection:
How often do we find ourselves saying, “I thought…”—only to realize later we were wrong? Those two words can quietly shape our perceptions, our relationships, and even our willingness to love others well. What we think in a moment can become a barrier if left unchecked.
The truth is, our thoughts are not always aligned with God’s truth. They can be influenced by past wounds, assumptions, pride, or misunderstanding. That’s why Scripture calls us to take our thoughts captive—not to let them run freely, but to pause, examine them, and bring them under the authority of Christ.
When we don’t do this, we risk labeling people unfairly, closing doors God may have wanted us to walk through, or missing the deeper story behind someone’s behavior. That person you “thought” was rude, distant, or difficult may be carrying a burden you cannot see.
The difference between judgment and grace often begins in a single thought.
Encouragement:
Today, be intentional with your thoughts. When one rises up that doesn’t reflect love, truth, or humility—capture it. Don’t let it define how you see others. Instead, invite the Holy Spirit to guide your perspective.
Give people room. Give grace where it’s not expected. Be the one who pauses long enough to understand rather than assume.
You never know—your willingness to move past “I thought” could be the very thing God uses to reach someone who’s been overlooked, misunderstood, or dismissed.
