I Thought
Scripture:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says Adonai. “As high as the sky is above the earth are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” — Isaiah 55:8-9 (CJB)
Reflection:
How many times have we said, “I thought…”?
I thought this door would open.
I thought this relationship would last.
I thought God would answer my prayer this way.
I thought things would work out differently.
The truth is, our thoughts are limited by what we can see. God’s plans are not. We often create expectations based on our understanding, only to find that God has something completely different in mind.
Faith is not trusting in what we think should happen. Faith is trusting God even when what happens is nothing like we expected.
When we place our trust in Him, it doesn’t matter if things unfold according to our plans. What matters is that they unfold according to His. His wisdom is greater than ours, His timing is perfect, and His purpose is always for His glory and our good.
Instead of saying, “I thought,” maybe we should learn to say, “Lord, I trust.”
Encouragement:
If life isn’t going the way you thought it would, don’t lose heart. God has never been limited by your expectations. Trust Him today. What He is doing may not make sense right now, but His plan is better than anything we could have imagined.
