Thought of The Day >

I Thought We Had More Time

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

— Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

Yesterday, I lost another friend unexpectedly. And once again, I heard that all-too-familiar phrase spoken through tears:

“I thought we had more time.”

It’s a sentence that haunts the grieving and convicts the living. Whether it’s our fathers, our friends, or even our children—we all carry moments we wish we could relive. One more hug. One more laugh. One more moment.

But Scripture reminds us, we are not guaranteed tomorrow (James 4:14). Time is not a promise; it’s a gift. So the question becomes: What are we doing with the time we’ve been given?

This Father’s Day, whether you are a father, had a father, lost a father, or are learning to forgive one—pause and reflect:

  • Have you spoken the words you need to say?
  • Have you shown the love you’ve been meaning to give?
  • Have you embraced the people God has placed in your life today?

Because when the time comes—and it will come—we don’t want to say, “I needed more time.” We want to say, “I used my time well.”

Used it to love.

Used it to forgive.

Used it to reflect Christ.

So let’s not wait for the calendar to tell us when to celebrate people. Make every day count, and never leave love unsaid.
