Judgment Begins With Us
Scripture:
“For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins first with us, what will the outcome be for those who are disobeying God’s Good News?”
— 1 Peter 4:17 (CJB)
Reflection:
A lot of people want judgment to start “out there” with the world, with culture, with the people doing wrong in plain sight. But the Word reminds us that God starts with His own house first. He starts with us.
That is not because He hates us. It is because He loves us too much to leave us the way we are.
Judgment for the believer is not about condemnation. It is about correction, pruning, refining, and bringing us back into alignment. God checks the heart of His people before He deals with the rebellion of the world. He wants His church clean. He wants His people humble. He wants us walking in truth, not just talking about it.
We cannot call others to repentance while refusing it ourselves. We cannot point fingers at darkness while entertaining compromise in our own lives. God is looking for people who will let Him search them first, convict them first, and change them first.
Before we ask God to move in the nation, we need to ask Him to move in us. Before we cry out for revival around us, we need revival within us.
Encouragement:
Do not fear the Lord’s correction. Receive it. His conviction is a sign that you belong to Him. Let Him search your heart, expose what does not belong, and strengthen what does. When judgment begins with us, purity begins with us too. And when God cleans His house, He prepares it for His glory.
