Thought of the Day: Perspective Changes Everything

My sister recently sent me a video of a house we lived in for a couple of years when we were kids in New York. I hadn’t seen it in decades.

As a child, I remembered the house being enormous. The retaining wall between the front yard and the backyard looked impossible to climb. Standing at the edge, it felt like you were looking over a cliff. And the backyard? In my memory, it seemed as long as two football fields.

Then I watched the video.

The wall was small. The yard wasn’t massive. Everything I remembered as overwhelming was actually much smaller than I had imagined.

It made me wonder if that’s how many of our problems are.

When we’re living in the flesh and focused only on what we can see, our struggles often look enormous. Fear grows. Worry grows. Obstacles seem impossible.

But when we walk in the Spirit and keep our eyes on Christ, our perspective changes. As we mature in our faith, we begin to see our problems through God’s eyes instead of our own. The mountains that once looked impossible begin to look much smaller because we remember how much bigger our God is.

Maybe the problem you’re facing today isn’t as big as it seems.

Maybe it’s your perspective that’s making it look larger than it really is.
