Rooted in Freedom

To be rooted in freedom means to plant our lives firmly in God’s promise, His grace, and His mercy. True freedom isn’t found in chasing the desires of the flesh or the temporary reliefs of this world. We often excuse our habits by saying, “It lets me be me. It sets me free. It takes away my worries.” But in reality, those things only keep us running from the person God has called us to be.

When we’re afraid to grow, we act like children—resisting, clinging, even throwing tantrums. Spiritually, many of us start as a “spiritual child” while still carrying the mindset of a “fleshly adult.” That’s like being stuck in the terrible twos—wanting our way, unwilling to let go, fighting against God’s shaping hand.

But as we mature in Christ, we learn to release those childish ways. We stop turning to the world for comfort and instead lean into God’s truth. That’s when we sink our roots deep into His freedom—the freedom that comes not from indulgence, but from deliverance.

“It is for freedom that the Messiah has set us free! So stand firm, and don’t let yourselves be tied up again to a yoke of slavery.”

—Galatians 5:1 (CJB)

Being rooted in freedom means living unshaken, planted in His Word, no longer tossed around by fear or temptation. It’s not about avoiding responsibility—it’s about growing up spiritually and walking boldly in the life Christ already paid for us to have.
