Take Control by Letting Go of Control

As men, we are called to take our rightful place in the household as godly leaders. Tony Evans once compared a man to a football coach—you may not have thrown the interception or caused the fumble, but you are still responsible for preparing the team for game day. In the same way, we may not cause every problem in our homes, but God holds us accountable for how we lead and prepare our families spiritually.

That responsibility started all the way back in Genesis. When sin entered the world, God didn’t call for Eve—He called for Adam. Adam was ultimately held responsible, because it was his role to guard, guide, and lead. Men, we are called to stand up and take responsibility for our households, our marriages, our children, and our walk with God.

But here’s the paradox: to truly take control, we must also let go of control. We cannot carry the weight of this world on our own shoulders. If we try, it will crush us. Taking control means knowing who we are and whose we are. It means leading boldly, but also surrendering fully to the One who leads us.

So stand up. Take your place. Lead your family. But never forget—the greatest act of leadership is to release control into God’s hands, because only then can He guide you, strengthen you, and order your steps.

“Trust in Adonai with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him; then he will level your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5–6 (CJB)
