We Wish to See Jesus
Scripture — John 12:21–26
“Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
“But Jesus answered them, saying, ‘The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.’”
— John 12:21–26 (NKJV)
Today’s Thought
“Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
These men came looking for Jesus, but His response revealed that truly seeing Him means understanding why He came.
Jesus did not come merely to be admired. He came to lay down His life.
Like a grain of wheat that must fall into the ground and die before it can produce a harvest, Jesus willingly surrendered His life so that many could receive eternal life. His death produced the greatest harvest the world has ever known—the salvation of all who place their faith in Him.
But Jesus also makes this personal.
“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me.”
Following Jesus requires more than saying we believe in Him. It requires surrender. We must be willing to let our pride, selfish desires, personal agendas, and need for control fall to the ground and die.
To “hate” our life in this world does not mean we should despise ourselves. It means that our love and loyalty toward Christ must be greater than our attachment to anything this world can offer.
We cannot follow Jesus while insisting on leading ourselves.
Yet surrender to Christ is never wasted. What we place into His hands may feel buried for a season, but God can use it to produce fruit far beyond what we could accomplish on our own.
The world does not simply need to hear Christians talk about Jesus. It needs to see Jesus living through His servants—in the way we love, forgive, serve, sacrifice, and remain faithful.
If someone came to you today saying, “I wish to see Jesus,” would they be able to see Him through your life?
Reflection
What part of your life are you still trying to hold onto instead of surrendering to Christ?
Are you merely admiring Jesus, or are you truly following Him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I do not want merely to know about You—I want to follow You. Help me surrender my pride, my plans, and anything else that keeps me from being fully obedient to You. Let my life reflect Your love and produce fruit for Your Kingdom. May others see You through the way I live, love, and serve. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s Challenge
Ask God to reveal one area of your life that needs to be surrendered. Place it into His hands, follow where He leads, and trust Him to produce the harvest.
We wish to see Jesus—and the world should be able to see Him through us.
