Who Are You Surrounding Yourself With?

Scripture (CJB):

“He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” — Proverbs 13:20

Reflection:

Yesterday during our Waymaker tribe chiefs meeting with the Men’s Alliance, we sat down as brothers and did something that the world rarely encourages anymore—real, honest conversation.

We talked about expectations, struggles, victories, and the things we’re walking through in life. What stood out the most was a simple truth that one of the brothers shared:

We are not here just to tell each other what we want to hear. We are here to help each other grow.

That is what true brotherhood looks like.

There are plenty of people in life who will stand around us while we make poor decisions. They may not encourage the wrong, but they also won’t step in to say anything. They let us drift. And while there may be no ill intent, silence can still leave a brother walking down the wrong path alone.

But a true brother in Christ is different.

A true brother will look you in the eye and say,

“Brother, you’re heading the wrong direction.”

Not with condemnation.

Not with pride.

But with love, honesty, and a desire to see you grow.

And that kind of honesty works both ways. A real brotherhood is a place where you can also say, “I messed up. Help me get back on track.”

Encouragement is good, but encouragement without truth can become false comfort. Real love sometimes requires difficult conversations that redirect our steps.

Our true hope is not in people saying everything will be okay.

Our true hope is found in Jesus Christ.

When we surround ourselves with brothers and sisters who are grounded in Christ, who know the Word, and who are willing to speak truth in love, we place ourselves in an environment where growth happens and where we are less likely to be led astray.

So today it’s worth asking a simple question:

Who are the voices you allow around you?

Are they people who will let you drift…

Or people who will help guide you closer to Christ?

Encouragement:

God designed us to walk in fellowship, not isolation. Seek out relationships with people who love Christ enough to love you with honesty. Be the kind of brother or sister who speaks truth with grace, receives correction with humility, and walks alongside others toward the life God has called them to.

Because the right people in your life won’t just comfort you—they will help you grow.
